Mad Professor Meets Mafia & Fluxy - New Galaxy Of Dub, Part 2 Sci-Fi Dub Series

The Mad Professor has been a leader of dub for many years and this new CD follows the high standards of previous releases

Mad Professor Meets Mafia & Fluxy - New Galaxy Of Dub, Part 2 Sci-Fi Dub Series

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site.

He’s been doing this stuff for over twenty years and apart from his collaborations with Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, the South London knob twiddler is possibly best known for the Massive Attack re-work album and the Dub Me Crazy Series. I definitely remember getting No. 10 ‘Psychedelic Dub’ from Body Music many years ago.

The new CD follows the 2002 release From Mars With Dub Part 1 which saw Mad Professor matched up with the UK production duo of Dave Fluxy (drums) and Leroy Mafia (keyboards), aka Mafia & Fluxy.

This trio of warped dub-minds jump around the universe of echo between numerous ‘themes’ as they kill the ‘Ring My Bell’ EFX synth (Dub The Clairvoyant), before some Roots classic style (Message From The Meteorite), topically ethnic (Spaceman From Baghdad) or tape rewind helium vocal (Power Of Shiva) and, appropriately, sub-mutant Klangers (Rock Of Hematite).

The CD features four bonus tracks (11-14) and ‘Spirit On The Milky Way’ hits the right mix of underwater dub echo in wobbly space. Not sure if it’s a ploy to get you to buy the CD and the LP, but these four tracks are currently my favourites.

As an aside, I was all excited last year when it was announced that there was going to be a joint Mad Professor and Lee Perry Tour. Unfortunately, it then got cancelled (last minute) as Perry tried an old industry trick of demanding more dosh for his presence. Fair play to the Professor, he’s not that mad to fall for that one and gave Perry (even if he is a legend), the two-finger salute. In fact, the Ariwa web site current says that every time he goes to write a news update, the stories are so incredible that he’s decided to save it for his book; “especially the stories about crazy artists!” So Mr. Perry (and anyone else), let that be a warning to you. Check the Ariwa web site for details of the Mad Professor’s current extensive Electronic Dub Show tour.

Not exactly sure when the CD is coming out, but it is a worthy companion to Roots Tonic Meets Bill Laswell for serious 70s style dubness for today.
