Madtone - Garden Of Earthly Delights

Madtone is the Daedelus of Dubtronica and with the arrival of Spring, he’s been out in the garden.

Madtone Garden of Earthly Delights

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site.

So it’s no coincidence that the three tracks of the forthcoming EP all appeared on the tracklisting of the latest Garden Of Earthly Delights show. You can listen again to the show via the links below, but how ‘global’ is that, a special recording for an Internet Radio show out of Milton Keynes?

I must admit that after ‘Dark Dread’ and ‘Emerald’ came out on From The End Of The Short Wave, I was worried that any follow up would never be as good. If you’re anything like me and not particularly familiar with the Numbers Station sub-culture, who could believe it would be such a rich source of inspiration. I should have had more faith.

I’m still not sure what it’s all about (is anyone?) but you get the idea on ‘Calling Live On Channel’ where Madtone has sampled a recording of a shortwave radio station known as The Buzzer. The Buzzer sends a constant tone 24/7 is thought to be of a Russian military source. Anyway, the result is an electro throb meets dub at Short Wave Studio One. He’s done the same with ‘E3’ with a ‘numbers’ station called The Lincolnshire Poacher.

I know it all sounds a little overindulgent, of the bedroom knob twiddling variety, and the EP ends with ‘Radio Is My Friend’.

All this is very much at the electronic end of dubness that’s quickly found favour with Rob Da Bank on Radio 1’s Blue Room as a ‘Milkmans Tune’ and has supported Madtone on all his releases. Not that this is restricted to just Milkmen but also check out the deeply hypnotic ‘NC-ND’, ‘Message From Madtone’ and ‘Andorra’.
