Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. Take two of the many top tracks on the album with a remix by the hottest DJ on the planet at the moment, Karizma (including the Ben Westbeech remix of ‘Hang Around’) and you’ve got a winner. The original version of ‘Endless Dance’ is included but it now takes a back seat to Karizma’s half broken nu-jazz house that spins you around in a love fest of hedonistic boogie. If only life was an endless dance, but it’s not bad for an intense 8 minutes though. Make it your choice to be a big sing-a-long. With such a great vocal performance, it’s a bit of shame that there’s the Karizma Dub version but it’s not a real instrumental as such. Keeping it broken, the Rhodes takes the lead and it’s cool to run the two versions together. From the village of Raw Fusion, Enochson has plucked the little known Quasimode for a remix of ‘Tonight The Night’ (featuring the trombone by Björn Samuelsson). It sounds like Nicola Conte has got involved in a Schema production with Jamie Cullen on piano. You know what I mean if I say it’s very Italian and Scandinavian all at the same time so, again stunning. These two tracks are the only ones on the album that Jocelyn Mathiue sings on (what a debut!) but there’s lots to get into. Like a couple of electro-Rucker tracks with Rachel Wilkie (particularly ‘Dub The Noize’) and James Ingram on ‘Day And Night’ sounding like he did 20 years ago (one for Talc fans). Masaya gets to appear on the club monsters ‘Keep On Getting By’ and ‘For You To See’ with a very soulful, ‘Love Is On The Way’ featuring Demeteus. And don’t be surprised if next up is a ‘Hear Me’ or the teen-pop-sleaze of Cornelia on ‘You Got It’ and ‘Take Me Away’. Hard to fault any of the tracks as Night Games was definitely one of the best house albums of the year. This 12” is going to get some renewed interest in it. What with the Romanian Jazz compilation, Electrecord Archives 1966-1978 and the neo-folk project, Sunchild by Thief, to name just two, Sonar Kollektiv are as eclectic and essential as Fly. Don’t miss this one. Hectic Mix nomination: All plus the album Reviewed: Markus Enochson — Endless Dance / Tonight The Night (Sonar Kollektiv) Cat. No. SK115 Release date: April 2007 Links: |
