Max Sedgley feat.Tor Cesay - Sound Boy

Sound boy Max Sedgley gets big props from Tor Cesay as they shift things up a gear with the release of new single ‘Sound Boy’.

Max Sedgely’s new album Suddenly Everything is due for release soon and has already raised a few eyebrows and ears as varied as Aeroplane, UNKLE and Tom Middleton as well as key house jocks like Mark Knight and The Shape Shifters as they all give various tracks a spin.

‘Sound Boy’ wasn’t my favourite track on the album but the updated classic 80s sound and Tor’s rap is prime urban radio playlist. The MC known as Cesay has fans on Radio 1 and 1Xtra as she’s recorded sessions that have been played on show of choice DJs Zane Lowe, Mary Anne Hobbs and Gilles Peterson. She’s got her own EP coming out in September and is certainly one to watch; stay on ya toes for her as she’s a bit quick and witted.

On the remix front, Kraak & Smaak keep the D-Train funky beats going and mess around with dub, disco, Italo-house and hip-hop themes as only they know how - even ending on a bit of a muted “our house” chant.

Over in the bass-bin tent, it’s refreshing in the increasingly crowded market that guys like Parker, can keep the b-boy rap and remix (rather than rebuild). Although I didn’t hear this one at Big Chill it could easily find a place next to the ‘Sky Surfing’ remixes on Toddla T’s new single.

But when it’s time to get dirty, Max’s own Afrodub mix is the bassbin shattering option.

Sedgely has come a long way since The Roots To The Shoots and ‘Happy’ at Bestival in 2006 - the sound boy inspecta gets it right!
