Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. If Mircan were a boy, she would have been thought autistic. The shy child was thought dumb when instead she was listening to the voices in her head. Voices gave way to music, speech to her highly powerful mode of singing. The adult Mircan is singer, mother and engineer combined. On this album, a third of the song titles are in English, reflecting her love of the language and perhaps her determination to do things her own way. The songs are quite filmic in nature, jazz instrumentals sway under long vocal notes held for an eternity as on the title track. Bird call breaks in, dark and foreboding cellos warn you off, waves lap, zithers zither and Mircan casts her spell across these ten tracks. Sala is a charming and idiosyncratic album that will delight some and mystify many others with its blend of ambient, jazz and fokloric elements. |
