Mistabishi - Drop

This ain’t no Fat Freddy’s, it ain’t nowt in the ocean, this Drop is pure d’n’b madness that kicks off with an anthem of a tune for a Hospital release, ‘Heaven Sake’

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site.

You’ll recall ‘Heaven Sake’ was on the recent Hospital Mix: 7 compilation and the full length sounds even better here. Don’t know who does the vocals on that one or the next, ‘No Mattter What’ but there’s the dirtiest drop in the middle and end; bloody monster sound that keeps the d’n’b faith going; even if there’s a touch of ital-rave going on.

At the other extreme ‘Printer Jam’ hurts as it’s such an audio copy of the printer jam/cleaning routine/carriage return that you want to follow the “try unplugging it” instructions. And if you like that, best of the lot is ‘Wipe Your Tears’ - yah hear me?

‘View From Nowhere’ as it wanders suitable into the cinematic (could have even been Broadway Project material) but I don’t get the warped Cher of ‘From Memory’ at all. So I really hoped ‘White Collar Grime’ was as good as the title and it is if your into acid-e-dubstep and it’s a killer equal any other Benga-Skreamist.

So this album is beginning to warp our consciousness and take us to other worlds on electronic dance. ‘Lean’ has a 60s organ style theme to an electro-vocoder dnb backing that’s got a quasi-ambient ending. Hey, this is original stuff and it’s easily the best Hospital release I’ve heard.

I don’t know what’s going on here but I kind of love the variety - ‘Damage’ gets sort of S&M punk electro al a Alec Empire and I’m beginning to get scared. And to prove the make mattes worse/better, the red braces of Gekko 80’s “greed is good” hits next with a d’n’b return to the cinema (Ed. What is he on about?)

I don’t know about you but I get the feeling that d’n’b is coming back (not that it’s ever been away) what the Friction & K-Tee remix of ‘Thou Shalt Always Kill’ and the rockin’ d’n’b Qemist (check the Join The Q album) and Jason ‘Mistabishi’ Pullen is leading the charge.

I’m so glad the Hospital are still at the cutting a’n’e of d’n’b and they’ve found a real mover in Mistabishi; perhaps not the full Panasonic just yet but not far from it.
