MOD X - 'Picture Man'

It’s been nearly a year now that we’ve been eagerly awaiting another MOD X’s release. It’s not that MOD X (aka Vincent) hasn’t been busy as he’s kept us happy with some superb mixtapes but, at last, the follow up to ‘The Quest’ is here

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site.

I’ve already ‘complained’ that this is all too catchy and you could end up singing along to it first thing in the morning to last thing at night. The main mix is the commercial “broken-funk” track that will get the radio plays. The ‘alt. take’ gets staggeringly broken for seven minutes.

To be honest, I’ve no idea what the lyrics are about and the male-female duet in English sounds ‘European’ at times - no real bad thing. There’s a dig at MPs in there which is an easy hit, but you can see why when you hear what French MPs get up to (see links below) and references to an aspiring Mata Hari reincarnation! Show me mystery?

Kid Loco was an early adopter of ‘The Quest’ sound and MOD X wasn’t slow to ask him to do the remix duties (following in the shoes of Paul Murphy so to speak).

In addition to his own releases, Kid Loco is renowned for his mixing with previous credits on editions of the DJ Kicks and Another Late Night mix compilations. He’s also contributed to The Ruts Babylon’s Burning remix album, which is quite a thing in itself. Onto his remixes of ‘Picture Man’, I favour the instrumental mix as it shows off his middle-eastern flare with those funky horns. In addition to ‘Picture Man’, check out The Graffiti Artist trailer and the soundtrack on SamuraiFM (see links below).

And there for the fans of the really twisted, there’s a special electro broken jazz mixed up mash by 6DC which will be a download on Karmadownload and Topplers.com as an exclusive track. But that’s for another day as this the 12” versions have been getting the appropriate reactions (see below).

More than a worthy follow up to ‘The Quest’ and another monster on the decks.
