It’s been out a couple of weeks this one but with our Beat Generation feature with Maimko (see HERE for the music based feature and HERE for the guide to Amsterdam) and our love of all thing Altered Vibes related (Modaji, Hundred Strong, Roger Robinson, Gum Drop to name just four off their ground breaking artists) and the 12” features the globe trottin’ Ahu (aka Dolly as featured on Flying Lotus’ ablum, Los Angeles) and the huge Enamative (as anticipated at Life Beyond Mars - Bowie Covered and coming soon on Futuristica Music).

So it has all the elements of a smash as it was featuring on Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Show (the corker with the Mulatu Astatke session) and it comes along with three remixes. But wait; this is Altered Vibes, these guys are from the leftfield, the underground, other worlds even. This is downtempo space soul-jazz and needs to breathe, grow and expand into your mind where it will surely take over until you know all the bitches too!

My current favourite mix is the more hip-hop leaning of the golden One Handed boy, Bullion. Sure to be hearing much more from him after the mix on Mary Ann Hobbs show this week (see links before and get on the ‘Listen Again’).

The 12” finishes off with a Simbad mix. You’ll have heard on Gilles Peterson’s show this week that the London based producer and DJ has gone to live in New York for a while. It’ll be interesting to see if this raises his profile as he’s been knocking on the door ever since releasing ‘Soul Fever’ on Raw Fusion a couple of years ago, the Robert Owens track on Night-time Stories, countless remixes and most recently, the collaboration known as Tettory Bad with Fatima (as featured on Karen P’s …Broadcasting). Perhaps he needs a rest? If so, he’s started in the right way with his ‘slow mix’ here. It’s slow mo slow, heavy on the synth beat and space echos. Catch your breath with this one as “…Y’all Just Listening Too Fast”.

Lovely stuff and before that, Atjazz, who has his own Robert Owen connections and many more besides including a production on one of the albums of the year, Replife’s The Unclosed Mind, turns it up downtempo go-go stylee.

Mr Beatnik himself is not shy of a remix (see Azymuth’s ‘Linha Do Horizonte’) and you’ll also find Mr Beatnik and his partner in beats, Charles II at shhhhh (along with a guest mix from contributor of this manor, Ben V and we highly recommed his The Sky Will Soon Be Full Of Suns mix that you can find on the ‘Guest Mix’ page at shhhhh.co.uk).

So it’s all good and the creapy artwork tops it off.
