Mr. Beatnick - The 4th Day

For students of all things theology, you’ll know that on the fourth day it all got a bit elemental and here’s some space inspired beats from a man who is out there, Mr. Beatnick!

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site.

Once again, Futuristica Music have got it spot on with the latest 7” on vinyl (when you read this, please read “7” on vinyl” in your best Gilles Peterson impersonation) by the very influential Mr. Beatnick.

You’ll recall that he’s remixed the mighty Azymuth (‘Linha Do Horizonte’) and Hint (‘One Woman Army’ on EP and Shapes 09:01) and released the excellent ‘I Know All The Bitches’ (that was included on Alexander Nut’s compilation Rinse:08).

So it’s a bit of coup for Simon S and the Futuristica Music crew to get these two tracks for their eight (and final) Futuristica 7” series release.

It’s annoying me but ‘The 4th Day’ features a sample (if not two) that I can’t quite put my finger on but I’m sure said Mr. Peterson and Brownswood message boards types will have no problems. This is far more beat dominated than ‘I Know All The Bitches’ and, for me, ‘Fallen Apples’ wins out as it’s a more of vibraphone[zone] piece.

And whilst mentioning Peterson, on a personal note, it looks like I’ll be missing his Dingwalls Session in a couple of weeks but to compensate, Simon has booked me up for an hour at the 4th Jazz Chronicles Session following on from Electric Conversation, Emanative (new remix EP out in 3 weeks) and K15 (definitely one to watch) together with the ever present Martin Gordon of Brownswood fame (see links below).

Will I play ‘Fallen Apples’? I don’t see why not. And as Simon is so close to Fabric this week, I might even drop ‘Unicorn In The Garden’ (see review HERE) but if Mr. Beatnick ever gets the nod to get out his Jazz Chronicles, that’s definitely one session not to be missed.
