Singer/songwriter Nate is coming to the UK for a tour and best to catch him now before he becomes a big star. Regular readers will know we’ve got a weak spot for anything pedal steel, whether it’s Hank Wangford Whistling In The Wind, Gram Parsons or Bright Eyes and of course, Carlos Niño’s “psychedelic cosmic love” has a place for all the CSNY, Buffalo Springfield, Byrds family of original country rockers.

Nate has been a professional songwriter for a few years now but sensibly waited until now (he’s 26) to release this debut as his voice has matured for his lyrics; albeit, financial circumstances we’re involved but the opener ‘Stockholm, Paris, New York’ is a clever love song that benefits from The Serenade backing.

That said, there’s a hefty dose of pop with this Americana (especially on ‘I Could Sing’) and the sing-a-long waltz of ‘Is This The End’ but The Serenade are a multitalented crew and chip all things guitar orientated and vocal harmony. Just as impressive is that this EP was recorded in a studio with all 12 musicians in the room playing all at the same time; almost unheard of these day’s you’d have thought but it really shows on the standout track, ‘Shown’ that’s deep and simple all at the same time (along with that great pedal steel sound).

The album Estella was recorded in Boston and will be coming out later this year but this May tour will be solo with some dates supporting American singer-songwriter Kim Richey and there’s a couple of one-offs with Norway’s Thomas Dybdahl and the Great Lake Swimmers.

Oh yeah, as Roy Ayres would say, “We all live in Brooklyn baby”.
