Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. Before we get to the good stuff, this release comes with a health warning as the lead track, ‘Future Disco’ is rather disappointing. Perhaps it’s because the rest of the EP is so much better or that there’s no links to past disco (or even nu-disco) and the ‘future’ element is also missing. But let’s overlook that small point as the EP is saved with the remixers knowhow as they beef up the sound to ‘Future Disco’. WIL.I.5 gets up tempo house party as he concentrates on the “We got in, we got out” vocal line and whilst there’s a touch of the current Trance synth obsession, it’s a big dancefloor tune. And then there’s the fabulous (mostly instrumental) ‘Carry The Weight’ that’s laden with bass and a rough and raw sax/guitar riffs - it’s like the Archie Bronson Outfit and had a wash, shave and pedicure all on the same day - and then forgot to clean their teeth. The set ends with the d’n’b Memberflex 2009 Remix - easy to say now that it’s so “last year” but as the dubstep phenomenon is reaching saturation point (discuss?), this is refreshing in many ways even with Chuckle Brothers “to me” vocal obsession. I’m told we should expect loads from these guys but and as debut EPs go, this is promising. Review: Neon Circus - Future Disco (Jacket Pocket Records) Release date: 18th January 2010 Links: |
