Nneka - 'The Uncomfortable Truth' |

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. The R&B/Soul scene seems to be populated by female divas whose assets aren’t necessarily their vocal talents so it’s good to find that Nneka Egbuna can really perform. Born in Nigeria, inevitably her first performances of her youth were singing in the church and school choirs. Years later, with a move to Germany, she has linked up with DJ Farhot (Hit Spot Music) and has produced an old-skool nu-soul funky smoocher called, ‘The Uncomfortable Truth’. It stands out as much for DJ Farhot’s production as Nneka’s vocals and should be a top tune on radio playlists this summer. Love those big horns but even better to my mind is the b-side of ‘Stay Strong’ with a live band feel and funky bass to boot. She lists her idols as Fela Kuti and Bob Marley as well as contemporary artists Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Mobb Deep and Lauryn Hill. It would be hard to put her into a bag on the strength of these two tracks and it’s that type of independent approach we go for at Fly. Hopefully, we hope to hear more of her with the forthcoming debut album, Victim Of Truth where she’s got Maskoe and The Chosen Few Crew to help out with the beats. Hopefully, she’ll support with some live gigs and definitely one to watch out for; see the links below for a preview.
