Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. You’ll recall ‘Balkan Hot Step’ came out in 2003 and was immediately championed by every DJ that’s after a guaranteed dance floor monster. Gilles Peterson picked it immediately and got it for his Eclectic album for Trust The DJ. It was so big it went onto all manner of compilations like Coney Island Love , Gypsy Garden — The World Of Gypsy Groove, Sélection Musiques Électroniques 2, Rob da Bank’s Fabric24 and Fopps favourite (but not Conor’s), Gypsy Beats And Balkan Bangers So you’d think that it’s unlikely that this new album contains such a monster track? Hey, don’t be so negative as this album is probably better as a more rounded collection of tracks. You can’t fault the first half of the album with the title track setting the tone. ‘More Pepper’ and ‘Gipsy Valley’ and for the more jazzy minded, ‘Saxomat’ N.O.H.A. stands for Noise Of Human Art that sounds hi-falutin’ but Philip Noha is all about d’n’b Balkan style. He does the drum programming and sax and Minerva Diaz-Perez does the singing on the album. Described as a European blues explosion of “fado-tristesse and electro-darkness, between bass-pulse and a fistful of accordion.” This album puts Prague on the map and feet on the dancefloor.
