With the exceptional Afro Art label being a little quiet of late, the pressure to come back with big bang anthem was growing. Could we ever be in doubt that Paul Murphy and the back room crew were going to let us down? Well, if we were, they’ve proved you wrong as after some serious negotiations they’ve to come back with the 12” of the year. But, the jury was out for a while as the original version of ‘The Governor’s Daughter’, any other week, would be a challenger as the track. It really is a good track as it bounces along in a slow groove post-Moodymann type ambient-tech-house-dub way. Even now, it might flip-it as it mirrors Radio Slave’s Deepest Space Remix of Florian Meindl’s ‘8 Bit Romance’ with a funky bass, space ships and a touch of Clangers on vibes. So you get this 12” for the original version as a warm up. But then, it was only the other day I was going over the top for Danny J Lewis’ ‘Ballistica’ (with the ‘Special Thanks’ credit for Paul Murphy) as it’s still in demand as Latin house fans will tell you. There’s no surprise then when it comes to the Danny J Lewis remix of ‘The Governor’s Daughter’ it is hits you HUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER than huge to dancefloor kill everything else in site. I can’t begin to express how good this is. I’d like to know what Lil’Wolf and Chris Lynch (aka Of Norway) thought when they heard this; try not to jump around like a mad leftfield Samba freak-head. Every DJ in the world will want this - prime time all over it. The last party at Afro Art was dominated by Samp Brothers & Outbound’s fun-time ‘Alcoholic Drinks’ but this party season is all about the drums and handclaps - this is going to create an awful sweaty mess at this years Peterson, Louis & Murphy annual meeting at Shifless Shuffle HQ. And if you’ve no idea why I keep mentioning Paul Murphy, check The Trip, Jazz Room or anything from the Afro Art catalogue and you’ll get some idea. Watch out for this everywhere and if Peterson doesn’t play it tonight, I’ll be shocked and amazed. Reviewed: Of Norway - The Governor’s Daughter (Afro Art) Cat.
