Oliver Koletzki - Get Wasted

Whilst Florian Meindl is off in the Sates, the other half of Flash Recordings dropped an album on Stil Vor Talent. Time to get wasted with Oliver Koletzki

Oliver Koletzki

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site.

Florian told us that Oliver was very supportive of his early work (check the interview Minimal Flash) so it’s no surprise that he helps out on this album with a couple of tracks.

I wonder if Florian’s ‘Get Wasted’ is a London take compared to Martin Eyerer’s (Kling Klong) back in Berlin? Not sure, but as a fan of ping-pong and deep rubblin’ basslines with the added bonus of some EFX that sounds like a slow croak of something living in Lake Titicaca, it’s the top tune to get wasted to.

Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t get wasted to the title track but it’s a relief once those Wolfgang Tillmans style vocals are out of the way. And as this LP is largely aimed at Berlin style club culture, for a city that doesn’t sleep from Friday night until Monday morning, ‘Don’t Forget To Go Home’ (assisted by DJ Kiki) is one for a more ‘commercial’ mass transport approach to a ride home on a spaceship.

The last track on the album is the other Florian tune ‘Terence Hill’. Is it the new minimal funky, melodic house? Perhaps, but this album in a tale of two halves as this second LP is different to the first on this double on vinyl set.

The first four tracks are all Koletzki. Lighter, happier and more European, not just on the basis of that two of the titles being in German. In fact, translations are ‘Requiem For The Reason’ and ‘This Song Actually Believes’ don’t sound half as intimidating as ‘Requiem Für Die Vernunft’ and ‘Dieses Lied Glaubt An Sich’

Released on Oliver’s own ‘style before talent’ label, this is some minimal tech house to rave and dream with. So while Florian is on his world tour, Oliver is staying more at home, check his MySpace site for his gig diary that’s already booked up until December.

Hectic mix nominations: ‘Get Wasted Part 2’, ‘Terence Hill’, ‘Get Wasted Part 1’, ‘Don’t Forget To Go Home’
