Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. In our interview with label mastermind Stee Downes, he let on that the second release from Scribble Records, would be by Palov & Mischin. Following on from the killer 4-track 12” Re-de-troit EP (out on G.A.M.M. including a re-working of the Northern soul classic, ‘The Snake’), the Greek duo bring us ‘The Dog’ EP. We find the pair in another mash of hip hop-funk’n’blues and soul. It goes from the dirty hip-hip of the title track to the down home funk of ‘Brothers’. I’m a sucker for any bluesy harp playing (also see The Rough Guide To The Blues) so this is a big winner for me. Is ‘Le Cubanas’ reggaeton? Probably not but ‘Well Stomach’ gets us back with the blues again. The skat intro and chorus sounds like the guy’s got a particularly delicate digestive problem but the guitar sings man! Not entirely sure about the dubby EFX towards the end but “Ooh! Arrgh” drop the needle on ‘The Dog’ again. The EP has already been featured by the disparate likes of Michael Ruetten (Compost Radio Show), Tim Scott (Samurai FM / 2 Types) and Joe Ransom (Kiss FM) proving this is another essential EP in the box along with Scribble 001, Kormac’s ‘Scratch Marchin’ EP. Hectic Mix nominations: ‘The Dog’, ‘Brothers’ Reviewed: Palov & Mishkin — The Dog EP (Scribble Records) Cat. No. 002 Release date: 23rd May 2007 Links: |
