Parallel Dance Ensemble - Pizza Turtle Cadillac EP

This is the single of the week, rather EP as the previously unknown Parallel Dance Ensemble re-incarnate a ESG, Liquid Liquid, Tom Tom Club crossbreed.

Stupid name but these guys are the funk spawn of Tom Tom Club, ESP, Liquid Liquid so in other words, this is a mighty fine NY Funk EP.

Absolute classic line on the opener ‘Pizza Turtle Cadillac’, “Alpha, Bata, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Eagle, it’s a party”. So goes ‘Pizza Turtle Cadillac’ and not content with that, “I smoke the jazz, I hate the crack, I love you like Burt Bacharach”. Parallel Dance Ensemble is Coco Solid, a New Zealand born MC and Copenhagen based producer Robin Hannibal (of Owusu & Hannibal fame) to create these new disco-rap anthems

The next track is for fans of Fat Club and Biggest Loser type shows for gym work outs to ‘Weight Watchers’ as there’s a funky wobble with more killer lyrics, “I eat my candy, it makes me feel alright, I eat my candy till my jeans are tight”

I feel wordy rappinghood vibes as it steams up me glasses, need to hear this in a hot sweaty club rather than a field at a festival but wherever, it’s a dancefloor EP of bass bomb grooves.

Next up seems to be a combination of two previous tracks on as a discolette dub on ‘Gigolette’.

Fans of Soul-Jazz and their various ESP/New York disco funk releases will be ecstatic when they get this; it’s the Spirit of Studio 54.

And talking of which, if you’re after deeper versions, check out the remixes. We’ve not heard of Yam Who? (aka Andy Williams and Des Morgan) for ages (well the Heavy album First Sessions) and as this is the first release on their new label, they get to do the remixes with Peech Boys make-overs for those who like a bit of old skool cowbell and cosmic funk synth.

We love that funky chipmonk stuff and don’t forget “Alpha, Bata, Bravo Charlie Delta Eagle, it’s a party” - Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant - it’s a party and my candy makes me feel alright.
