Leonard-Morgan’s list of production and arrangement credits has brought him to the attention of the film, TV and advertising Johnnies. Winning a BAFTA nomination at the age of 25 didn’t hurt either or the Ivor Novello nomination for ITV’s drama, Fallen. Seen the new series of Spooks on the Beeb? Yep, he’s done the music for that as well.

‘Bout time for his debut album after all that lot. Think of Filmtales as a compilation of John Barry meets Massive Attack and Cinematic Orchestra with a touch of LJK Bukem and you’ll not be too far away.

Former singer in the band Belle & Sebastian, Isobel Campbell appears on the opener ‘Wilderness’ but it’s not long before we get into the big string arrangements on ‘Seen From The Outside’ to the dnb backing. Even if this has been done before, it is a superior arrangement and while on the subject of dnb, Jenna G’s appeared on a few tracks in the past (remember ‘Beautiful’?). She turns up here on ‘Peace Of Mind’ that’s in that Trip-hop-Bond Theme territory.

There’s no doubt about it, Leonard-Morgan can certainly paint a picture with his dramatic arrangements, check ‘Elektra’ and ‘Sweet Denial’ for a comparison of car chase to death bed.

Personally, ‘Standing Up’ is a little too long for me and ‘All For You’ too likely to be a big hit on Radio 2 but that’s the only gripes as some of the instrumentals are quite spectacular, like the piano lead ‘Sienna’ and ‘Snatcher’.

Best of the lot is the big feature of a Chubby Broccoli, ‘Like A Bullet Through The Head’.
