Plump DJs - Shifting Gears (Stanton Warriors Remix)

Plump DJs (aka Lee Rous and Andy Gardner) are one of the first acts to be released on Finger Lickin’ Records and ‘Shifting Gears’ shows that they’re not thinking of slowing down the pace just yet.

The A side of this 12” is taken from their most recent album Headtrash and has been remixed by those kings of the decks, the Stanton Warriors (aka Dominic Butler & Mark Yardley (as last seen in these parts at Wonky Beats). These guys standings are just as high as the Plump DJs themselves and it just shows what these two teams can do as a co-operative. Serious bass and funky beats with bits of disco and hip hop rap (featuring Raphael Lamotta) means this is a must have tune whilst not to be confused with the Johnny Hammond ‘Shifting Gears’ jazz-funk classic from 1988.

On the flip AA side, is a one of the top Headtrach tracks that’s also got a sort of shifting gears theme as ‘Rocket Soul’ is race themed club banger (a bit quicker than practice around a rain soaked Monza today anyway) with a dark undercurrent.

Next month sees Finger Lickin’ celebrate their 10th birthday and there’s going to be a triple CD with all your favourites like Krafty Kuts, Soul of Man, A-Skillz, Lee Coombs, Slyde and many more plus, of course, Plump DJs. And allsorts is going on at the Westbury over the next couple of months but recommend you get tickets for next Saturday sorted in advance if you’re in the Kilburn area (see below).
