Prince Fatty - Milk & Honey

Milk & Honey is pure 70s cool; edgy female vocals over smooth bouncy dub beats with a hint of jazz

prince fatty

The band behind it is Prince Fatty - a group originally formed to record a limited edition album to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Stuusy but now brought back in to being by Mr Bongo Records.

The group was put together by producer and engineer Mike Pelanconi, who produced Lilly Allen’s ‘Alright Still’ and Little Barrie’s ‘Stand Your Ground’, and features an exciting guest line-up. The Roots Radics’ drummer Style Scott, Ruff Cut Band Hammond organ player Bubblers, Afrobeat star and saxophonist Bucky Leo and the Nostalgia 77 Horn Section have all played their part. Guest vocals have been provided by Little Roy, Winston Francis and Hollie Cook; it’s Cook’s smoky vocals that are showcased on Milk & Honey.

The single has more than a hint of the Lock Stock soundtrack to and is reminiscent of Prince Buster. Just in case you were wondering why the voice on the b-side Fat Panther is so familiar, its because it’s the veteran DJ and producer Al Capone.

As well as the single Prince Fatty’s Survival of the Fattest album is out soon and they are promising some live shows and DJ gigs over the summer.

Milk and Honey is definately a cool summer song. It’s like a drink of cold water when you’re thirsty. You just want more and more!

Musically speaking, January is a great month for us. We’ve begun our Saturday night “Hero Series” and this month we’ve got some big names rocking the spot. Of course, LIVING PROOF doesn’t need big names to rock the spot, and if you love real hiphop and its foundations this should be your new favourite clubnight - check it out on the 10th. The following Saturday, CREDIT CRUNK, is bringing you none other than 4HERO’s MARC MAC. Enough said. After that, on the 24th we have PRINCE FATTY playing on our MR. BONGO SOUNDSYSTEM monthly. He is very dubby and will make your insides wobble in a soulful kind of way. If you don’t know the tune “MILK AND HONEY” google it.
