Quarteto Magritte - 'Malanotte' (Paul Murphy Remixes)

When tango, baroque and jazz gets an extrapercussive remix, you just know that Afro Artist, Paul Murphy will be involved

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site.

Quartetto Magritte’s work is inspired by the Belgian artist, René Magritte. They’re not the only group of musicians to be inspired by the surrealist with a sense of humour, as his influences have been seen on an extensive range folks from Jackson Brown to Gary Numan (see list on Wikipedia).

Murphy can spot a tune that’s ripe for a remix but he’s been very reserved on ‘Malanotte’. That said, c’est nes pas un tango of the oridinary. It’s got a Tati-esque comedy soundtrack edge to it. Can you imagine the spirit of non-Gotan tango crossed with the Guinness advert’s ‘Guaglione’? You know the one, the Perez “Prez” Prado classic track with a man doing an esoteric dance as he waits for his pint of Guinness to settle.

For the Dub, [aka Dué] you can feel a BiggaBush connection as those drums get taken to another continent.

The original track by Quarteto Magritte has been renamed for this special release. Now that Mr. Murphy is resident in Italy, he’s tried to curry favour with the local bar owner in Bellano by naming the track after bar ‘Malanotte’. Popular with backpackers and record label bosses alike on the shores of Lake Como, it scarily translates as ‘Evil Night’! A night dancing on the tables to ‘Malanotte’ might be dangerous, but not evil.

As we know Paul The Trip Murphy is constantly on the move, and can be currently seen in bellissimo Bologna hangin out with DJ Farrapo. The sharp-eyed amongst you will spot AFR 031 is being released a year after AFR 032; DJ Farrapo & Yanez’s d’n’b samba, ‘Baiano Vem Baiano Vai’. Whatever the reason for the delay, the wait is over for you leftfield tango fans. Get this now while you can.
