U-Gene’s vocal could add more than it does in ‘Not Today’ a song which features on the fantastic Witness Future Vintage 2 Kindred Spirits compilation, however when the influence of Domu surfaces through the driving, kicking beat and gentle synths in ‘Clave’ the quality of Poes becomes clear. Indeed Domu has remixed ‘Best Deejay’ for a forthcoming 12” along with other remixes by more stars from the said compilation, I.N.T and Tom Trago. ‘Maaitiemaai’ has a roaming low end, with reverse effects as if the Man from Another Place was running things. It also features Benny Sings who impresses on each track he offers his vocal skills to particularly when his high tones are juxtaposed with Die Bend’s raw MCing.

‘Paiva’ comes deep with a late night shimmer followed by ‘Wop’, a short ditty with wonderful wobbly bass and moody keys, recently playlisted by Benji B on his top notch 1Xtra show Deviation. ‘Don’t Break’ enters seamlessly with superb opening drums and gorgeous strings, evocative of Cinematic Orchestra or Aaron Jerome.

‘In Your Mind’ and ‘Find My Way’ are built around Deborah Jordan’s majestic vocals. Deborah’s voice is beautiful and these two tracks along with ‘Popsong’ bring a calming balance to the album. ‘Fly’ is more head-nodding excellence with Raffaela Herbert’s sweet vocals and stunning keys from Andy Bereboot. ‘Diesel’ is made for BTS radio or broken beat heads with a hilarious intro leading into a soulful clattering of beats and pulsating hums, with awesome bounce.

The variety of tempos, moods, beats and basslines is testament to the greatness of Akai MPCs and the musical skills and of Aardvarck and Steven de Peven, plus all the guests who feature. It was foolish of me to have missed the London show at Other Worlds, must be time I took a Dutch trip. Poes has been out since the end of May on Kindred Spirits and having bopped about elated to it I now want to source Rednose Distrikt’s 1st release Iller Dan Je Ouders. Also must remember to listen to the new Future Vintage radio show on with Melodee, Rada and Tom Trago.
