It was Simon S who played the Low Budget Soul Remix of ‘Maybe’ on his Samurai FM show recently, but that’s not the only killer track here. There are another four taken off the great Illclectica album for this remix EP.

You may recall back in April I was so taken with the Dobie remix of ‘Unsticking’ it got into the Hectic N-E-X-T-W-O-R-L-D #2 mix (see links below) and it’s even better on vinyl. It’s eerily creepy which suits the lyrics, “like a poster on a wall, we are unsticking”. It’s a little masterpiece. We were also impressed with Dobie’s ‘I’ll Be Your Everything (Demo Mix)’ included on Burnt Progress CD so he is another one to watching out for.

We’ve not heard of Elmore Judd since the Angel Sound album and ‘Che’ as it’s another nervy twitchy mix.

The 12” ends with the Low Budget Soul remix of ‘Maybe’. Again it’s dark, moody and haunting with heavy piano in a cinematic way. What with ‘Unsticking’, it’s an intense vibe but one you’re inextricably drawn to.

The a-side is has a soulful hip hop vibe as Jason Todd (of Def Harmonic) takes ‘Nicola’s Song’ with Lucy Wilkins vocals on a spacey electro bounce with jazzy sax. Oh! this reminds me of something else. Possibly Kid Creole And The Coconuts? Dunno, but I love it.

Staying upbeat, ‘Dream Keepa’ is taken on by TY’s best mate Drew who I first came across on Lizz Fields’ remix of ‘When I See Love’ of a couple of years ago. In fact, TY getting together with Roger Robinson would seem to be a very good idea and this is definitely one for the sophisticated head nodders.

This 12” is an essential companion to the album, especially if you’re into the dark ‘b’ side of things.
