Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. Well, no less than Dennis Ferrer picked the b-side, ‘New Love’ to open his Mixmag cover CD House Nation ‘08 for April so that’s a mighty fine endorsement in itself. ‘New Love’ is the more obvious soul/dance/house track of the two on this single, mainly due to its catchy “Since you’ve gone, do you still love me” vocal. Easy to be lulled by its instant pleasure and bouncey beats but don’t linger as the other side might not be a copy of ‘Dark Soldier’, but it has it’s own ‘Dark Soldier’-type grower elements. Echoing chorale voices, pan steel drum beats, acoustic guitar on beach lines and mesmorising synth twiddles (with a slight touch of a ‘Baba O’Riley’ theme?). That said, I’m not knocking Rock Opera projects as ‘Dark Soldier’ was always a bit of a winner with the prog-house lyrics delivered in the whispery tones of Araba Walton. There’s more outer experience lyrics on ‘Inner Soul’ and the whole thing all adds up to another monster hit. For completists, Sonar Kollektiv released a Dixon edit of ‘Dark Soldier’ on 12” with another top track, the “jazzy” ‘Unforgiven’ (that you might find this one listed on a Hectic Mix tracklisting on t’net). Good to see Sonar Kollektiv are not a label to sit back on their former glory (but if you need a refresher, check 10 Years, Who Cares?) and it’s best to regularly check their web site as already this year they’ve released a new Jazzanova EP, Computer Incarnations II and the download only Eva Be remix of Markus Enochson’s ‘Take Me Away’ (Hectic recommends the ‘Extended’ mix). Sonar Kollektiv have got in Appel an star that is destined to be one of the big names of 2008. He’s has previously been a member of such a fine trio of dancefloor favourites Fauna Flash, Trüby Trio and Voom:Voom so he knows how to teamwork and his solo success with ‘Dark Soldier’ is clearly not going to be a one off. Appel’s album, Talk To Your Angel promises to be a huge debut album this year and I for one can’t wait to hear it; it’s out in June I’m told so until then, my inner soul with have to be satisfied with my new love double A sided 12”!
