Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. It was only the other week that Gilles Peterson was saying on his show that he hadn’t been playing the ‘Buff Nuff’ single as the new album is so good. Not sure of the logic in this as Toddla T is one of the hottest producers at the moment and we love ‘Buff Nuff’ (see review HERE). It’s only when you here the forthcoming single that Peterson’s comment may make some sense; ‘Again & Again’ is a top summer tune that is up there in a ‘Witness’ way. This is exaltly what gets Don Letts excited as JA bass gets twisted in a UK style (but not very much). And to continue with the theme of JA in the UK, the video by Alastair Siddons gets a certain R. Manuva batting at number 11 in a typically English cricket ground scene. Does the man get the two runs required to win of the last ball to win the game? Siddons’ full length breakdance documentary Turn It Loose is soon to be screened around the international film festival circuit so one to keep an eye out for, There’s a couple of excellent remixes from other team members. Matt Helders (The Arctic Monkeys) takes us into the amusment arcade and one from big hot remixers of the moment, the Moody Boyz (check out their remix of ‘Honey’ by Erykah Badu). As good as these are. it’s still the original sunny Caribbean version that gets you in the groove and puts a smile on your face. Shy-FX provides the non-D’n’B groove that in mere hours rather than days will be crossing over from all Rootical’s DJ fans from evening session to daytime national radio. Crack open a can Old Jamaica Ginger Beer and relax into it, again and again. I love this tune! He’s a busy boy of late as you might have seen him on Channel 4’s Transmission show. Roots ain’t too bothered about being so UK hip-hop’ that he can’t have a bit of fun collbaroting with upcoming star/hype Santogold. And he’s busy on the Festival scene playing V Festival, Creamfields, Bestival and Big Chill (see review HERE) as well as announcing a 16 date UK tour in October. Essential as ever! Reviewed: Roots Manuva - Again & Again (Big Dada Recordings) Cat. No: BDCD122 Release date: 25th August (Album out 1st September) Also: You can now buy and download an EP drawn from the Roots Manuva performance at Koko as part of the iTunes Live festival on July 5th. As well as some of the old faves, there’s a fantastic encore version of “Seat Yourself”. Worth a look. Go here to download. And if you’re in Ibiza on Saturday, he’s there as part of Radio 1 and 1Xtra’s Ibiza Rocks celebrations. Even if you’re not going, you can hear him chat to Trevor Nelson and perorming some tuneage between 7pm and 9pm… Forthcoming Live Gigs: Links |
