Roots Manuva - Buff Nuff |

|
Keen on getting naked? It seems that naturism is the TV’s latest in thing and Roots Manuva (aka Rodney Smith) is keen to get his kit off by the sounds of this one. Produced by Toddla T, ‘Buff Nuff’ is a blend of Roots’ take on dancehall slackness and Big Dada stylee hip hop that has already made Zane Lowe’s ‘Hottest Record In The World Spot’ on his Radio 1 show. The video is a scream! Rodney plays the Rick James of the 69 cone with a crew of BB girlies after him; not exactly the subtleness of ‘Witness The Fitness’ but that was a long time ago now. Talking of history, I thought it was a bit harsh in that when Vice said, “Roots Manuva (remember him?)” when promoting his/their gig last night. It was only yesterday, Karen P was reminded us how good his Worldwide Maida Vale session was (see interview HERE) and it wasn’t that long ago we loved Awfully Deep. Anyway, Roots is certainly not living in the past as Toddla T is a fresh producer out of Sheffield. His first EP, ‘Do U Know’ featured the vocals of Serocee (who I thought sounded a little like Roots on his ‘Life/War’ single of a couple of years ago), followed that up with a baseline rave ‘Soundtape Killin’ (again with Serocee) and had remix action from those Funk Mundial combo Count Of Monte Crystal And Sinden. This is not that last that’ll we’ll be hearing from the Toddla as he’s already remix tracks by Hot Chip and Róisín Murphy this year. Roots’ album Slime & Reason is due out on 25th August and i’ll be running to come and save my copy. Reviewed: Roots Manuva - Buff Nuff’ (Big Dada Recordings) Cat. COMMENTS After headlining the iTunes Festival in London last Saturday, Big Dada and Roots Manuva announce a 15-date UK tour which will run for almost the entire length of October. Kicking off at the Sage Centre in Gateshead and finishing up at Plymouth University. In keeping with the sound of his new album, “Slime & Reason,” the show will built around a soundsystem feel, focussing more on electronics, dub and crashing beats than the live band sound he employed last time out. As he’s shown recently at shows like the iTunes London Live festival, Rodney Smith has never enjoyed playing live more. The tour will be a whistle stop journey through fistfuls of classic Manuva tracks plus ample material from the new album. Tue 07-Oct-08 Gateshead - The Sage 2 |

You’ve heard the tune, you’ve licked the ice cream, now buy the record (or download if you’re that way inclined). “Buff Nuff” by Roots Manuva, his first release since 2005, is out today on limited edition 7” single and from all good digital suppliers (even bundled with the vid if that’s your thing). Produced by Toddla T and featuring Roderick Manuva’s own unique mixutre of salacious chat-up lines and treble-entendre, “Buff Nuff” is not only a thing of miniature beauty but also the first single from his forthcoming album, “Slime & Reason”.
Buy from the Ninjashop or from iTunes.
