Roots Manuva - Let The Spirit

Fresh from a damp Bestival on the Isle of Wight last weekend, Roots Manuva is hitting back with some wisdom that will let your spirit sooth you.

The third single from the album Slime & Reason is another top track that shows how varied the album is.

Produced by Metronomy and the video is once again directed by Alastair Siddons and it’s here!

And whilst the album is in the top 5 albums of the year in its normal condition, you might just have enough time to catch 2CD limited edition version (in pink no less!) that features a second CD, Slime & Version from Wrong Tom and full of reggae versions and dubs.

September 23rd and 26th sees Roderick Manuva and his live band return to the Jools Holland “Later…” studio for the first time since 2001. Definiely worth a look so check your TV listings pages for exact times in your region

Not only that Roots Manuva’s new website is up and running (see links below) and don’t forget the Tour starting on 4th October (see HERE for full date listing).

Reviewed: Roots Manuva - Let The Spirit (Ninja Tune) Cat. No. Release date 27th October 2008 with remixes from Hot Chip and Toddla T & Ross Orton.

Produced by indie-funkster Metronomy, when Rodney Smith heard the basic beat he felt it was “the perfect opportunity for me to get back to my gospel church essence - get back to the old church van, happy clappy blind faith!” As such, it’s perhaps the most uplifitng piece of music of a remarkable career, already described by the Guardian as “an anthem pitched somehwere near where OutKast might end up if they were produced by Sly & Robbie”.

The final mix for the radio version of the tune was put together by Paul Epworth (Bloc Party, Kano, Kate Nash etc plus remixes for New Order, U2, P-Diddy and The Streets), who kept the warmnth and wonkiness of the original while adding a punch and dynamism which guarantees it sticks in your head after a single listen.

Remixes come from Hot Chip and Ross Orton & Toddla T. The single will also be supported by an 18 date UK tour. A highlight for the autumn, this is proper pop music for proper people.
