Shuttle feat. Cadence Weapon - Tunnel EP

A new recruit to the Ninja Tune family, don’t be put off by the cover, this guy’s musical pallet is so much more than mere 2-tone.

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site.

When we say new, Shuttle was formerly known as Etan (aka Etan Groundswell) and you’ll recall the Etan’s Greenwich Mean Report remix of Daedelus’ ‘Hrs:Mins:Secs’ or possibly his Positive Outlook Etan remix of ‘Impossible’ by The Death Set? Well he’s at it again as the latest “sonic chameleon” with this EP called ‘Tunnel’.

Now if you’re on a label called Suicide Dub, as is High Rankin, you’d expect the remix of ‘Tunnel’ to be much darker and scary dubstep thud; and it is! Far heavier than El-B could have imagined that his ‘Roots Of’ would lead to but we shouldn’t be too surprised bearing in mind what damage High Rankin did with Mumdance to the bass bins with their fantastic Dita DimonĂ© remix. These people should never team up with Mistabishi as I just can’t image what would happen.

The original of ‘Tunnel’ is a quieter, but still scary and very bass heavy, cinematic soundscape; “I’m not going down there” says the girl. And I don’t blame her. The vocal version of ‘Rotten Guts’ sees him team up with Cadence Weapon from Big Dada. “No more bangers” he announces at the start but he lies, this is very bouncy and it’s a bit of a grower with vocoder bits that we always like.

Originally from Southern Maryland, Shuttle is not just for Boston’s underground clubland where he first got attention via stints in Washington DC and Baltimore. Now he’s reaching the decks of Radio 1 and drum’n’bass Forum sites - I’m prepared to believe Shuttle is crazy and he’s gone down the tunnel.

As it’s hard to fit in a box these two tracks but they’ve definitely created a buzz about the forthcoming album so stay tuned as they say.
