Sparo - 'The Falling'

Sparo may have his head in the clouds but the arrival of ‘The Falling’ (released on 3 Bar Fire) is just the thing to turn up the heat

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site.

‘The Falling’ supposed to be a hymn to Sparo’s descent to Earth a la Sun Ra. Clearly he’s got a screw loose (see biog on myspace, find links below) but he knows how to use a MPC2000 and has got this new label hot on his case.

The remixes fall somewhere between Coldcut, Lemon Jelly, DJ Saturn (DJ Saturn you ask? Hot news that Japan’s P-Vine are interested with this space cadet, stay tuned) and Dr. Rubberfunk (coming soon, My Life at 33 Remixes).

Joey2Tits gets a big pair of scissors out on the digital tape for some cut-up action while My Left Retina (how do they think up these names?) takes ‘The Falling’ on a trip to the movies for a showing of It Came From Outer Space.

The last mix is probably of most interest to Fly regulars as we go down Mexico way with Camilo Lara (aka Mexican Institute of Sound). He released the well received album Piñata last year and when he’s not stuck in the office in Mexico City, he likes to turn his hand to remixes for friends like Placebo, Le Hammond Inferno, Gecko Turner and Babasónicos.

So, when Sparo is on Earth, if he’s not miming on drums behind Bryan Ferry in Morroco(!), unsurprisingly he’s been known to compile the odd mixtape — “Been selling my Sparoworld 2 mix CDs at Rough Trade down there off Portobello and they’ve been flying off the shelves! Will get on with volume 3 soon” (don’t forget to support Rough Trade’s fairly new store next to The Big Chill Bar off Brick Lane which is well worth a visit). While on the subject of getting out and about, there’s a good looking 3-Bar Fire (70s stylee) at the Bowling Lanes if that’s your thing (love that Ipso Facto hairstyle — see links below).

I see our old mate at Resonance FM, Nick Luscombe is a fan and with this single and the forthcoming album, there’s bound to be many more.
