Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. The Times gave this one 5/5 this week and tipped as “South London’s Latest Rap Sensation”, Speech Debeele pours out her feelings as she suffers rejection in this tale of a broken heart; “The hardest thing is to say goodbye, And harder than that is not to start cryin’”. Following on from the debut single ‘Searching’ and ‘The Key’, ‘Go Then, Bye’ continues her self-analysis in public through her rap/poetry, this time with a minimal backing of strings and handclaps that was produced by Dread Keys. It’s worth all the attention she’s getting and whilst super dread poet Benjamin Zephaniah is seemly all over the place this week (again in The Times talking about growing up as a Villa fan, in the Guardian talking about living in the country and on the TV judging a children’s poetry reading competition), it’s about time that there’s an intelligent spokesperson for a younger generation. On the remix, Esser comes up with a bouncy electro computer gamer and El-B (he of Ammunition & Blackdown Present: The Roots Of El-B) teams up with Photomachine on the 2-step ‘break my stride’ back of the garage mix. She might <3 hate (see cover), but she’s getting the love ready for the album Speech Therapy that’s due out 1st June. Reviewed: Speech Debelle - Go Then, Bye (Big Dada) Cat.
