Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. Stee has attempted to break the formula on his one-man band approach to mix up lots of different influences. ‘Formula’ and ‘Asunder’ (pop/reggae), ‘When I’m Feelin’ (pop/soul with jazzy guitar solo) and a couple of pop type tracks. It’s not really my thing but perhaps the summer heat has changed me as today, the title track of the forthcoming album, Destruction Of Ourselves has got the repeat button on. It’s mournful and reflective with simple acoustic guitar and strings. ‘Asunder’ is bright and bouncy and reminds me of a bit of Tyler James of a couple of years ago when he was being groomed for success. Another track, currently on his myspace site ‘Things You Say’ is more our type of thing. It’s like, say, ‘Destruction Of Ourselves’ in a soulful hip hop groove. Hopefully, there’ll be a few more examples of this type of track on the album that’s due out for the summer. Currently based in Dublin, Stee seems like a great booking if you’re having a party. The ‘bonus’ DJ mix sounds like sort great night out; jazz, funk and soul. What more do you want? Reviewed - Stee Downes - Formula (Getaway Records) CD |
