Stockholm Cyclo - Techtonic People

This is the latest installment from the Swedish electro-house collective; Stockholm Cyclo. With fusions of salsa, jazz and funk, Techtonic People has been acclaimed for its eclectic take on nu-jazz meets electro-boogie

Stockholm Cyclo - Techtonic People

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site.

The album collects elements from across genres resulting in the layered, bouncy beats of ‘I’m Sayin’ It’ or the haunting vocals of ‘Starting Over’ as well as the luscious depths of the clarinet and saxophone in ‘V.S.O.P’.

‘Sticky’ has been pitched as the album’s strongest track through its commission by Hed Kandi to feature on a compilation. ‘Sticky’ is indeed similar in electro undertone to the infamous Les Rhythm Digitales’ ‘Jacques Your Body’ and David Guetta feat. The Egg ‘Love Don’t Let Me Go (Walking Away)’ but Techtonic People has shown the stronger depths of Stockholm Cyclo and their use of cross dance genre infiltration.

Techtonic People is reminiscent of some of Björk’s early work and often teases by touching slightly on the trip hop while adding flavours from the realm of chillout. ‘Le Voyage’ is just one of the tracks that can match the Hed Kandi standard. The vocals are etched with the sounds of a slightly dirtier beat yet cleverly mixed with flamenco hand clapping and Spanish guitar. Techtonic People is as comfortable taking you to the only-a-beat-way-from-breakbeat sounds of ‘My DrumMachine’ as it is taking us straight back to the sounds of Latino summertime with ‘Salsatech 1080’ via the funkadelia of ‘Top Celebrities’.

Techtonic People, very clearly manages to incorporate the use of transitional sounds such as the Spanish guitar by layering them with dropped broken beats – resulting in a new take on electro-house.
