Friday night, 2nd November, 2007 was a big night. Introduced by Gilles Peterson prior to his trip to Southport, he was keen to play one of his Cinematic Orchestra favourites on his show this week. ‘Ode To The Big Sea’ goes back right to the start of Jason Swinscoe’s project on Ninja Tune in 1999 (that Gilles mentioned in his introduction — see video below) .

For most of the 4000 folks there, I suspect it was the inspired choice of getting “the mighty vocals by the peerless Fontella Bass” to guest of ‘All That You Give’ in 2002 that was the big breakthrough

‘All That You Give’ opens this Live album like it did the classic Every Day album thus getting the big night off to a great start.

No only was it a big night for Gilles, Jason, Jules Buckley and the Heritage Orchestra saw one of their dreams come true as that was 40 musicans on stage at this famous venue. A venue with such a history that it has hosted the biggest names from Pink Floyd to Muhammed Ali, Dalai Lama to Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan to Stephen Hawking. I’ve even been there to see the odd pairing of Ben E. King to Konishiki (aka the Dump Truck), not on the same night of course.

All of the big tracks are here from last year’s Ma Fleur album, ‘Breathe’, ‘Familiar Ground’, ‘To Build A Home’, ‘Time And Space’.

If you weren’t there, at least with this release you can experience some of the atmosphere. And if you were there, what a tremendous momento of a brilliant one-off event.
