Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. After last week’s killer Gilles Peterson show, the one with the Emanative interview (not before FLY’s exclusive interview, see HERE) featuring the album of the year Space, just before the end he played The Heavy’s forthcoming single ‘Sixteen’. But when you/I say The Heavy’s ‘Sixteen’, they have so heavily sampled Screaming Jay Hawkins’ classic ‘I Put A Spell On You’ it’s like a remix with new lyrics; brilliantly respectful of of the original, it keeps the drama of the breaks with a sound effect for the line “like a tape or a cassette”. Old skool but new skool and absolutely brilliant; inspired by the devil - she’s already there! The b-side is like label mate Pop Levi going rock-funk-breaks as if The Small Faces vs. Kasabian vs. Sharon Jones!? A must have but if you can wait, video below and it will be on The Heavy’s forthcoming second album, The House That Dirt Built and they’ve got festival dates lined up for the summer and a huge tour to support the album this autumn; you might say heavyweight?
