The Killer Meters - Dance Move Shake! |

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. Those ever imaginative folks at Breakin’ Bread know when to bring out a single called ‘Dance Move Shake!’ but they’ve surpassed themselves with this double 7” slice of funk rock! They certainly know their funk at Breakin’ Bread as after the The Party Keller Mix compilation by Florian Keller, they’ve got The Killer Meters to come back after 3 years without any release whatsoever. Breaks/Funk fans don’t need reminding that the original Meters from New Orleans “virtually defined funk in the late 60’s” so for the first Killer Meters album, they obviously wanted to do a tribute to Meters with the 2004, A Tribute To The Meters on Scenario Records. Two of the tracks featured Karime Kendra on vocals and the band had the good sense to get her to join the band. The band was formed by Virgil Howe (who has released his own album on Scenario Records and is one of the original DJ’s on the legendary London pirate station Itch FM). Virgil (drums) and other members of the band have also played with purveyor of the leftfield Little Barrie, Shawn Lee and The Future Sound Of London (who are lined up for the next Bloc weekend). With 3 years of gigging around the band have developed their own funk-rock sound that is too the fore with the fore of the first track on the single, ‘Dance Move Shake’. Karime really gives it some and the band join in too with an uptempo rhythm stomper overlaid with heavy guitar fuzz. Giving a nod to their roots there is a killer drum break two thirds of the way through the track. ‘Black Mountain’ is closer to old skool funk and was produced by Shawn Lee (he of Clutch Of The Tiger). The double 7” pack contains both vocal versions and instrumentals with a very classy dub version of the b-side. This is a bit different and on first hearing you’ll be thinking, “what the funk is this” but stick with it as there’s a voodoo going on and repeating dancefloor action reaps rewards.
