Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. Hard to believe The Nextmen’s This Was Supposed To Be The Future came out last year but this 12” is a timely reminder of how good it was; along with Brad Ellis’ six-track mix in The Metro. The best of the lot is the opener as Yes King can do no wrong at the moment. With the remix of Recloose’s ‘Deeper Waters’ featuring Joe Dukie on Best Seven Selections 3 (and check out Recloose’s new album Perfect Timing) and Bob Marley’s ‘Sun Is Shining’ (on Kartel), YesKing just can’t do no wrong with a modern reggae twist. But this 12” features 4 top tracks. Commix are fresh from Metalheadz compilation are just as happy with Joe Dukie’s vocals as Recloose as he features on ‘Did No Wrong’; as a slow build up, you know they are going to d’n’b blow up. And they do but in a chilled downtempo way which is very sutble. Bobby and Klien just keep the funk rollin’ and the 12” finishes with part 2 of the album’s title track ‘This Was Supposed To Be The Future’ which is in their hip-hop mode featuring long-term favourite Dynamite MC. The Nextmen are not only great producers but always put on a great show. Very busy next month and highly recommended to blow out those credit crunch blues. Forthcoming gigs.
