The Nostalgia 77 Octet - Borderlands

So you’re just getting to grips with ‘The Impossible Equation’ and we’re hit with the new CD, Borderlands

Nostalgia 77CD

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site.

The Nostalgia 77 Octet’s first album Seven’s & Eight’s was recorded Live At The Jazz Cafe (including a version of ‘The Hope Suite’) which came out around the same time the band were in Wales recording this new album.

So these eight tracks were recorded on the border with the music bordering the jazz of today and days gone by. Spanning UK jazz and US jazz. Bordering may have been a theme but this CD never falls between two stools in terms of quality. It is just magnificent throughout.

Desert Fairy Princess’ stands out but, then again, it always will. So looking at the other tracks, Ben’s love of Graham Collier comes to the fore; in fact, they all love Graham Collier. Fans of Collier’s Septet’s Deep Dark Blue Centre will just soak this up. Best evidenced by ‘The Cat’. Any track that can keep your attention for 12 minutes of modal jazz funk is a winner.

They have just played the Jazz Café (24th September) and more gigs are planned. This album will blow any jazz fan away and while the top album of the year is going to be Paul Murphy’s The Trip, this one is going to be well up in the top ten at least.

Wednesday 25th of October @ Onze Jazz Festival, Switzerland
Friday 10th of November @ Komedia, Brighton, UK
Wednesday 29th of November @ Wardrobe, Leeds, UK
