The Plumstead Radical Club - The Coast Is Clear |

|
Following on from The Nostalgia 77 Octet set last month, The Plumstead Radical Club is all Octet members led by trombonists Trevor Mires. Along with Graham Fox (drums), Ross Stanley (piano) and Riaan Vosloo (bass) the album is pure jazz with the surprise jazz club hit, ‘One Way’ that went down a storm the first Favourite Things (at Proud, every Monday with Dom Servini, Hugo Mendez on the decks with live music from the house band and special guests). As you’d guest from this line-up, this is anything but a back-in the day one-track album. The title track ‘The Coast Is Clear’ is an uptempo jazzer with Trevor and Ross leading the way. A quick check on Trevor’s previous recordings and we find he’s appeared on Negrocan’s ‘Mare Baixa’ (12” on Especial with a Jazztronik remix!) and Róisín Murphy’s album Ruby Blue (produced by Matthew Herbert). So clearly a versatile musician and taking on a jazzy-reggae version of Bob Marley’s ‘I Shot The Sheriff’ proves a big success. The album finishes off with ‘Question’ another uptempo track while ‘Smoke And Mirrors’ is a more leisurely exploration. The support band at the Spitz is the equally excellent Fiction Trio so it should be another great night at the East London venue.
