The Rongetz Foundation - 'First Step' EP

Come on! This is jazzhead bizness at its best as Stephane Rongetz takes on a spiritual jazz perspective

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site.

We got excited in the Fly office when we got Anne Wirz and Spirit Jazz earlier this year on Heavenly Sweetness and First Step sees singer, trumpeter and composer Rongetz as a mix of Mark Murphy and Freddie Hubbard!

The main track is ‘One Legged Dancer’ which is just what we need as we approach the big jazz dance jam in Soho next month.

Record in France and mixed in Philly the band sound their most ‘authentic’ on the cover of John Coltrane’s ‘Spiritual’. Peter Giron’s bass solo is the highlight as it gets to the heart of the love for the genre. On top, Rongetz trumpet takes the lead with great support from Benjamin Dévigne on Fender Rhodes and late night drums by Betsch. This is ideal for late night/early morning reflections.

The EP finishes with another original, the mellow smoky bar ‘Almost’ where Dévigne (who has also worked with French wiz Patchworks) gets the piano bar solo.

‘One Leg Dancer’ is currently loaded on their MySpace site to check out and with this release they are surely a strong contender for label of the year. Crazy jazzdance baby!
