Well that’s probably going too far but if you mash-up both versions of this single it might be spot on. As a taster of the ‘difficult’ second album, Trust Me we get the original version of ‘In Diesen Raum’ (‘Into This Room’) and a DJ Hell remix.

Berlin-born Trost can sing in German, French or English and has a background in electro punk rock with bands such as Trio, Shizuo, Atari Teenage Riot and her own band with Gina V. Dorio, Cobra Killer. It sounds like we’ve driffed off into John Peel’s territory here as we’re told Sonic Youth are apparently fans of Cobra Killer!

Anyway, back to ‘In Diesen Raum’, the scuzzy electro-punk of the original starts all Death From Above 1979 minimal but builds with a bit of rockin’ guitar that breaks into what sounds a bit like a blues vocal sample and a brass band from New Orleans. All with the unexcited vocals of Trost, it’s all tension and strangely hypnotic.

Dex-meister DJ Hell (or simply Hell) is another fan of Cobra Killer so it’s no surprise he’s was offered to do a remix. While it’s a dark 80s (even Soft Cell!) dirty electro makeover of the original, we’re getting into this vibe at the moment what with the DJ Spinna cover of ‘Computer Love’, the Damian Lazarus/Matthew Styles compilation and the Black Strobe mix for Time Out Presents The Other Side of Paris.

Hell is the man for Detroit meets Chicago meets German house thing and here there’s he has thrown in some odd sounds that Can would be proud of. To be honest, I thought I’d only listen to the Hell version (which is excellent for the house) but I keep coming back to that original version that is made by that bit of brass.

Berlin has a new electro queen, looking forward to hearing the album.
