Cuiziner, Teki Latex, Tido Berman with DJ Orgasmi have come back with an electro bang compared to their last big tune, ‘De Pauvres Riches’.

Here at Fly we have noticed that hip-hop has gradually been adopting eighties electro-pop of late (see Braintax) and there’s links with the heritage of Kings Of Techno. Even the album cover looks like it could have been used on cover of Smash Hits in its heyday.

The opener ‘Quand Je Claque Des Doigts’ is as close as hip-hop gets to click disco and is definitely one of the better tracks along with the Orgasmi produced hometown tribute tune, ‘Paris, Paris’ and ‘Telephone’. You’ll definitely be hearing ‘(pas la peine d’appeler je ne réponds pas au) TELEPHONE’ and ‘Paris, Paris’ as this is the next double a-sided single 12” release.

As regular readers might gather, I prefer my leftfield hip-hop to be more in the Daedelus bag and I’m a little undecided on the rest of the album as it needs some ‘acclimatisation’ to this new approach. But you can’t fault their innovation but when I got to chat with TY recently, he told me long before ‘De Pauvres Riches’ when they were on tour together, TTC were really into their electro ‘body-poppin’ hip-hop. So you could say that this new release is a little bit of return to their roots.

The album finishes with collaboration with those German electro types Modeselektor (who remixed ‘Black Barbie’) with a club-orientated track that makes a change of pace at the end.

Fair to say, this album it’s not in the MC Solaar or La Cedille tradition but it’s always great to hear some fresh French hip hop.
