It was only the other day that we were going on about Tom Stephan’s Asseteria! Live From New York (on his Nervous Nitelife: Tom Stephan compilation) and would you know it, here’s the latest in the series with NYC’s Colombian DJ prodigy, Chriss Vargas.

Mr. Vargas might not be that well outside of Asseteria! or the “New York City hard house” and “Iberican Tribal beats” of Coraza Recordings but a couple of remixed Chriss Vargas tracks on this compilation has done his CV no harm. And this is a CV that has been growing since he made his debut appearance on the main floor of Pacha NYC in a couple of years ago. Since then he’s played other NYC clubs Cielo, Arena and Tavern (La Playa) as well as hosting his radio show on Party 105.3.

So not only is he working on his own productions, there’s a remix of DJ Babalu’s ‘Do It’ that came out at the end of last year on Coraza included on this non-stop compilation mix.

The opener might lull you into thinking this is going to be a bit ‘Fake’ but the ‘Filthy Beats’ remix leaves you in no doubt this is going to be funkin’ hard boogie tech house and the Clotting mix of ‘So Fast And So Deep’ takes it to outta space.

The big track for me is the monster from Danny Freakazoid that goes mad in the house with the steel drums on ‘Left & Right’. It’s so simple but yet so right (and left) but there’s also the semi-ping pong of ‘Ma Beats’ by Luis Filipe Marques Godinho (aka DJ Dextro) and that Vargas/Arango big bang remix of ‘Do It’ (and if you don’t ‘do it’ after that one, there’s no hope for ya).

You don’t have to be from Colombia or NYC to shake that ass, but it helps if you’ve got Asseteria - Live From Uranus to help you out. Just ‘Do It’ as some large corporate org might say.
