Twelve tracks of haunting soulful reggae dub that keeps the groove going after Ziggy Marley In Jamaica and Frost & Wagner Remixes it features some of our old favourites plus some new ones.

If you’re into a Ziggy old skoolness ‘Real Rebel’ by Cat Rat and featuring the vocals of Robert Lee hits the roots consciousness with Rastafarian ‘Babylon’ emphasis and dub section. Was this a single? And later on Jah Seat gets to chant down Babylon with ‘Jah Soldier’. This is what we liked to play on at the Friday night Dub Night and the mix of old and new old on next track is even better! The Yes King remix Joe Dukie and Recloose with a track called ‘Deeper Waters’ gets lots of echoy synth and Joe’s beautiful vocals - it’s a winner!

And there’10 more tracks, including Natalie Gardiner (see of California) on a track by Kabuki (forever in our hearts for ”), The Black Seeds ‘Love Is A Radiation’ (from the new album Solid Ground) and Barnaby sounds even more stunning plus great backing vocals and some serious chilled out dancehall by Tosca.

Normally I’d probably have a rant about Lovers Rock; especially as the track here is ‘You’re The Best Thing’ but as it’s done by the old folks that can make it work (the aforementioned Frost & Wagner), I’m not going to say it’s the best thing, but it’s one for the ladies and we love the ladies; Esther Cowans has the name and the voice for this one.

Talking of girls, the CD starts with a cover of the Rolling Stones’ ‘Play With Fire’ by Sisters (who apparently are a female Afro-soul-dub-anti-racism combo) and there’s more girl action with Ladi6 with ‘Walk Right Up’ which is a grower.

Then there’s The Dynamics. Now there’s a band that live up to their name. If you don’t know The Dynamics, where have you been? Best known for their reggae version cover of ‘Seven Nation Army’ (there’s a power of 7 going on here) turn up with their cover of ‘90% Of Me Is You’. The Dynamics is mostly a project by Patchworks and fans will know he hasn’t done anything wrong yet and I doubt if he ever will. What can you do, enjoy the sublime sweetness and turn it up!

More girls as Miss Yolanda provides the vocals on the dubby bass bin ‘Good To Go’ by Sygaire in a sort Arabian market type way (not Arabian Prince type way, he’s something else) that’s currently make this track of the week in FLY’s office (reminds us a little of Biggabush/Lightning Head and you can’t say better than that)..

And talking of Biggabush, his mate Daniel Haaksman turns up as Haaksman and Haskaman on the last track ‘Na Lathina’ that starts Gotan meets dub meat favela so nothing fans of Afro Reggae should be scared of. It features the vocals of Guga Rei and I’m ashamed to say this is the first I’ve heard of this collaboration; more please!

What a great album! All good but some are awesome. Need the right mood for a mixtape? Best Seven Selections 3 will have it but it’s even better as a compilation in its own right. Daniel Best for President!
