V/A - Brownswood Bubblers Three |

We’ve only just been considering the power of three with Brownswood Recordings latest release by J.A.M Just A Maestro when the London bus scenario turns up again with the imaginatively entitled Brownswood Bubblers Three (following on from Brownswood Bubblers and Brownswood Bubblers Two. Clearly Peterson’s connections help out but some of these tracks just sound so classic even thought he’s only played them once on his Radio show or they are exclusives! He’s definitely played the Kenneth Bager & Gisli ‘Fragment Zero…And I Kept Dubbin’ track to open his show and it just blows you away every time you hear it (it’s the one with the mouth organ) and you know there’s going to be something special if Charlie ‘African Beats’ Dark gets together with Roger ‘Armed & Beautiful’ Robinson. And ‘Prayers For Angry Young Men’ is special and even if it touches one of today’s disaffected youth, it’ll have done its job. One a totally different tip, we know all about Joey Negro & The Sunshine Band’s ‘Turn It Out’ from the Moving With The Shakers album and you might think this would sound out of place on this compilation, far from it; and that’s after following a track by Bullion! Now he continues to prove he’s a producer that you can bank on after his ‘I Know All The Bitches’ with the opener, ‘Get Familiar’. And someone else that is much in demand is Ahu who turns up on this album with another friend of FLY, the multi-talented Emanative (he of Futuristica Music, 3-D and other side projects that I’m sworn to secrecy about) and ‘Turn Your Light On ’ is the jazzy highlight. Steve Spacek is another vocalist who is equally at home in the production side of thing (as in Black Pocket) and features on ‘How About Us’ by Australia’s Katalyst. But that’s not all folks we know and love. You think you’re doing something important? Jukes track of the same name put all our busy lives into context and I fancy a bit of ‘Floatin’ by Stacey Epps. If you’re longing for those long lost days of Asian jazz-fusion of Asha Puthli, Arun Ghosh’s Aurora is enough to get you diggin’ in deep for more. You can’t have a go at this album as every track is superb and the Brownswood Bubblers series now prooves itself as worthy modern day sucessor of Peterson’s past triumphs such as Jazz Juice, Talkin’ Jazz or Eclectic.
