V/A - Exploited Presents: Shir Khan - Maximize! |

|
As recommended by fellow DJ and Berlin resident Eva Be, Shir Khan is the man for the “Kick Ass” dancefloor selection, two crammed discs compiled by him that he mixes and mashes. He’s DJ’d for many of the artists that he’s used but he also been on the bill with big names like Grandmaster Flash, the big Ninja Tune guys (Coldcut, Hextatic and DJ Food), Luke Vibert, JME, Bonde Do Role, Mocky, Radioclit, Snax, Andrew Wetherall, Tiefschwarz, Erlend Oye, Simian Mobile Disco! And live, he’s a one man 2 Many DJ. Even if he didn’t show off his DJing abilities as a mash master, I think we could safely say, this is a great double on the basis of his selector duties and there’s a fair few of the 49 tracks which feature folks that we’ve covered in the past. The Adam Sky remix of ‘La Musique’ (Riot In Belgium) really gets disc one stard, Edu K’s ‘Sex-O-Matic’s a capela gets tied up min a big mash by Milan’s fidget-house experts, Crookers, Yusek’s ‘Composer’ and Jahcoozi’s ‘BLN’. Disc 2 has as many highlights, like Stereotyp, DJ Sandrinho and Sinden & Count Of Monte Cristal’s new world rave mix of Tamborzuda. On the leftfield, Robosonic’s ‘Die Ver-wandlung’ (Jesse Rose remix) get mashed with Namosh’s ‘Cold Cream’ vocal that sounds really dirty (or an allergic reaction to the smoking ban). And he’s got his hand on a remake of ‘We Are All Prostitutes’ by Adam Sky with original The Pop Group vocalist, Mark Stewart; put that one down for a 12” purchase. Remember “our children will rise up against us, ‘cos we are the ones to blame”. How true! In fact, Mr. Stewart turns up again for a typical performance on a track called ‘Psychoville’, this time a Digitalism remix. Even if you’re familiar with these tunes, he mixes and melds the lots so, at times, you’re not really sure what’s going on. This makes the whole thing fresh and a musical challenge. If you’re new to the name Shir Khan, you won’t be for much longer as he’s being lined up for remixes for Bonde do Role, Holy Hail and The Jai-Alai Savant. Like Fly, this varied array of dancefloor flavas where dubstep and baile funk sit on electro and techno with hip hop and indie to get the mix that satisfies the most. With loads of great comps around at the moment, to be MIXMAG’s Compilation of the Month for September just shows how good this is, it’ll blow your mind! Coming to the UK soon, not to be missed.
