Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. Sean Brosnan has compiled the follow up to the highly successful Future Disco album but this time, set for release on his new label NeedWant. So whilst this isn’t the Future Disco - A Guide to 21st Century Disco or Euro Disco (what was I saying about Space?), this set will keep you going all nite long, Yes Maam! If Mixmag calls this “the most exciting production work going on in clubland” you know this is more that just hype as this version continues where Vol. 1 left off. It features the hot ‘Happy House’ by Juan MacLean, an exclusive remix of Mercury Price Nominees Friendly Fires (who, even I’ll admit, were very good at Big Chill this year), the 90’s house of Todd Terje’s mix of Sh*t Robot, the unadulterated disco of Faze Action’s ‘I Wanna Dancer’ (really sounding ‘now’ that one) plus tracks and remixes from Crazy P, the ubiquitous Prins Thomas and the legendary disco pioneer, Madchester’s very own Greg Wilson! And that’s how Future Disco does it, all hands to the big disco pump and they’re gone one step further with big night of at the Queen of Hoxton this Friday (16th October) for a special extended party with a special live performance from Faze Action (remember how good thier Plans & Designs album was/and still is?). The five piece have been on the summer festival circuit promoting their latest album Stratus Energy. Not only that, Crazy P (who provide a Snax remix; and you know we love the post Prince funk of Snax’ ‘Honeymoon’s Over’) and they always get the party spirit going. Tonight Jim and Danielle bring the Crazy P Soundsystem so expect a combination of dancefloor boogie and house with Danielle’s vocals on top. And if that doesn’t convince you it the best night to be had in town, Severino is regarded as one of the best DJs in London as part of the Horse Meat Disco gang; a good opportunity to wear the t-shirt (see Horse Meat Disco compilation review HERE). Not only that, filling the nu-disco gaps will be Sean Brosnan himself, Matty J (from TIRK Records), Nico De Ceglia, The Cosmic Truth and David James. It’s been said before that disco emerged (and possibly) peaked in the depression of the 70s and the re-emergence in the late 2000’s ‘credit crunch’ hiatus is not merely coincidental. But future disco has the advantage of being groomed by new breed of producers who can infuse the influences of the 70s, 80s and 90s (mostly house) to create the Future Disco sound (Maclean’s ‘Happy House’ is probably the most obvious example). The mix ends with a monster remix from Prins Thomas (should have been all over Big Chill/Bestival) and a remix by DJ Koze of Who Made Who’s of ‘Keep Me in My Plane’ (were so on it at FLY HQ - see review of the original HERE) and you can’t help yourself but start again; I’m polishing the disco ball as I type. P.S. Just in case I didn’t emphasise the point, this is a really exceptional example of how to mix a CD and I don’t care if it’s been ‘software’ assisted or not, it’s got it spot on!
