V/A - Lion Head Compilation Volume One

Sub-titled “Collected selections and produced by Glyn Bigga Bush”, that’s a “must have” in our book and not only that, it features some previously unreleased tracks!

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site.

Following the brilliant 13 Faces of Lightning Head, Lion Head Recordings have got together a ‘Best Of’ collection featuring sort after tracks from Ella Fitzgerald vs Rockers Hi Fi Fi, Lightning Head, Magic Drum Orchestra, BiggaBush and Ventoux.

Glyn “Bigga” Bush has plundered the vaults and got the big ‘uns out. Now there’s no comparison between Bigga’s Batucada Version Rockers Hi-Fi vs Ella Fitzgerald ‘Sunshine of Your Love’ and the original mash-up as it’s all about the drums baby; “Oooooooooooohhhhhhh!” she’s waiting, big big tune and a monster. And no hint of Eric Clapton and one for Gilles Peterson to fall in love with all over again.

And talking of all things batucada and bateria, the Drum Magic Orchestra have brought the carnival to various parts of Dorset and Chilled Cider festival last year and their ‘Ragga Samba’ beats make some noise in the studio; as picked up by Simone Vimercati.

You’ll recall Glyn made his name in the mid-90s with those Rockers Hi-Fi with tracks like the might ‘Push-Push’ (that saw a reappearance of Great Stuff Recordings a couple of years back with some new remixes, see HERE and made the 5 Years Of Great Stuff album) and ‘More And More’ was another one of their best from Rockers To Rockers; whilst on the subject of Augustus Pablo, worth checking out the house dub of Mollono.Bass.

And when Bigga gets dubby, BiggaBush In Dub is the place to go with a guitar version of ‘Push Push’ and cool ‘Cool It’. And when it come to cool, Bigga’s collab with Ventoux (not the scourge of the Tour de France) called ‘East Africa Dub Stylee’ is just that (a different take to that of Mulatu Astatke / The Heliocentrics Inspiration Information Vol. 3).

On the Lightning Head side of things, ‘2nd Line Stomp’ and the classic ‘Me & Me Princes’ are Studio Don spawn and the ‘Sick State’ is culled from 13 Faces of Lightning Head.

The real treat is the previously unavailable tracks, Bigga teaming up with his old Rocker Hi-Fi mate Frada P with the string aided drama of ‘Going Over’ and a couple of new ones from Bigga, ‘Sounds And Blues’ that’s a touch dubstep and the “Floyd-like pads and a funker drummer” of the closing track, ‘The Bells’.

There’s no doubt about it, twelve brilliant tracks from Glyn “Bigga” Bush who is a genious by any other ‘cool it, don’t give my’ name.
