V/A - Munich Disco Tech Vol. 3 |

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. Right after the huge success of his debut mini album Mini Jack (yep! it’s still HOT) the new Belgian wunderkind Ramon Tapia returns on the hot Munich Disco Tech sceen and delivers another outstanding piece of club music. Ramon is in that zone of ‘can do wrong’ at the moment and ‘Mi Esposa’ is a mix of high tempo race to the finish line go-go with a touch of Latin horn for good measure. Second track ‘Gulp’ is another that’s pushing the pace along in the House. Italian duo UGLH (Underground Loophole) from Perugia with their friend Federico Locchi don’t mind a little bit of jazzy key attitude to keep bodies moving on the dancefloor. The b-side sees a return to the Great Stuff Roots Edition classic ‘No Government’ by Nicolette for a brand new remix. As an aside, at the time the Roots Edition 12” came out, I remember asking Gilles Peterson at Dingwalls why he hadn’t played any of the remixes on the radio? I was most surprised when he claimed there were already enough remixes of ‘No Government’ in the public domain already (or words to that effect). Well there’s some pot and kettle for you I thought bearing in mind the Talkin’ Loud back catalogue. Anyway, I’m more than pleased to report that Great Stuff’s head honcho Rainer Weichhold agrees that you can’t have too much of ‘No Government’ as Remote Area’s Gimikk (aka Daniel Sanchez and E Contact) get on the case. You’ll recall the Rainer contributed one of his own tracks to Munich Disco Tech Vol. 2, (the rather bangin’ organ called ‘Hamsterdam’) but Daniel Sanchez has a reputation of the being “bad boy of the Amsterdam techno underground”. This party animal, DJ and producer had his own summer smash in 2007 with ‘Mumbling Yeah’ and has since joined up with another DJ/producer talent E-Contact (who releases on labels like Suruba and Stock5) to form Gimikk. Richie Hawtin and Adam Beyer are fans of the Gimikk sound and the remix of ‘No Government’ is going to find even more like minded groovers dancing to their “You know who I am and you know who you are” beat. Worth every second of the 8 minutes for me. So, once more Great Stuff show us they are ahead of the rest whether looking backward or forwards for dance sounds. And to further prove the point, there’s news that next month the label is going to release a double CD compilation to celebrate their 5th birthday (aptly entitled Five Years of Great Stuff) with one CD being a massive Lützenkirchen and Tomcraft ‘Best Of’ mix and the other CD being a set of exclusive ‘New Birthday Remixes’ by artists on the current Great Stuff roster. Gulp, Great Stuff just gets greater and greater in the Disco Tech; all essential great stuff. Reviewed: V/A - Munich Disco Tech Vol. 3 (Great Stuff) Cat.
