After the recent Mind Control edition of Nervous Nitelife - Addicted (as ‘Hooked’ and ‘Fixated’ sets) New York born/currently Londond based Superchumbo (aka Tom Stephan) provides us with a different kind of fix. I think it’s fair to say, of the 19 tracks the one’s that stand out is his latest single ‘Turn That Shit Up’ (out on Southern Fried with a remix by the king of the “Decent Work For Decent Pay” remix, Diplo) and, as mentioned in Sophia May review, Tom’s fantastic anthem track with Pete Gleadall that features Rowetta (ex-Happy Mondays, X Factor, Rehab), ‘Lights Out’. Both share the big room “electrodisconoise” (as influenced by both US/UK electro and “the new Dutch sound”. It’s definitely a house mix (with contributions from Miami legend Robbie Rivera and the big climax of Oscar G’s ‘What You Need’ as remixed by Stephan). That said, the B-More/ electro/Baile Funk influences are all here and if you don’t get it by the time you get to Stephan’s ‘harder’ take on Major Lazer with his remix of ‘Keep It Going Louder’ (erm..again, all the best stuff is from Tom!), your not going to get this one. The CD sets off with Nevous Disco Dolly’s setting the tone another couple of highlights is Holland’s Afrojack track raises eybrows (he’s caught the attenion of Honorebel & Pitbull with a remix of ‘Now You See It’ not included here) and whilst we will always love Mr. Electroclash Larry Tee’s ‘licky’ Princess Superstar, Roxy Cottontail joins Mr. Tee for with some nasty bounce (that here is Afrojack’d), remember her on Exploited Presents: Shir Khan - Maximize!? Picking a couple of Diplo remixes (Holland’s Bingo Players and ‘Turn That Shit Up’) before the previously mentioned Oscar G climax, certainly keeps you on your feet. Just left to mention the photo of Tom on the rear cover in plain t-shirt with ‘DRUMS’ emblazoned on his chest is a nice look. Not so good is the Newspaper Headline cover/boy on a motorcycle pastiche, compare with the imaginiative cover of Asseteria! Live From New York - ‘nuff said, bang the drum.
