Binaro - Binario

Hey! This is something a bit different from Far Out Recordings, Ipanema Beach bad boys Binario turn up with their self-titled debut, Binario

FARO135CD.jpg

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site.

Hectic days for Far Out Recordings, Marco Valle and Azymuth both on European tours and then with the same producer as Azymuth’s Buttefly album, David Brinkworth (aka 50% of Harmonic 33), Binario are a Baile Rock-Funk of a band. More influenced by Radiohead, Can, Kraftwerk, Zappa and Miles than your usual Far Out Recordings artists; think Luiz Eça y la Familia Sargrada with a fuzzbox jamming it out with El Topo.

On the vocal front they sound more Baile Punk and when they all join in, its sounds a little comical (Punk Canção?). The flip from explosive ‘rock’ to trippy jazz psych-rock, particularly on ‘DDP’, the downtempo ‘Experimental (Cat Nip) and the ‘Tropicalia Maiden’, ‘Tarde Damais’ takes some getting used to.

In a past life (not literally of course), I remember working with Paul Di’anno shortly after Battlezone had won some MTV Brazil video award so there’s no surprise that bands have a metal edge, the instrumental opener ‘Funeral’ and ‘LKJ’ have something of the downtempo Sabbath about it (remember ‘Planet Caravan’ on Late Night Tales: AIR. On a similar tack, ‘Ibirapuera’ is a bit dubby on the beach and is a rare moment of chill on the album, along with the Jeff Beckesque ‘Jazzhole’.

You’d have thought they’d be more tracks like the Liquid Liquid/ESG influenced ‘Amor Liquido’ but there’s no point sounding like another CSS or Bondo Do Role; ‘Vamanda’ is a bit too early RHCP for me.

That said, when a band has two drummers, three guitarists, bass, vocals and synth, you’re not going to get the ordinary - this is far out of the ordinary and sounds better on every listen.
